The functionality of the winch benefits from the integration of the dedicated Stema Systems software that allows the winch to maintain altitude above the sea/lake floor of the sensors that it is towing. The altitude maintenance functionality has been proven to provide an added safety margin in the deployment of sensors such as a Side Scan Sonar as well as providing consistency of results in the deployment of magnetometers, both needing a consistent altitude for optimal functioning. The High Speed Power tow winch with 11 Kw can tow up to 480 Kg with the speed of 2 meters per second.
The High Speed Winch is designed such that it can rapidly deploy multiple sensors simultaneously up to a depth of 2000 meters. The winch can be operated with in the standard confguration with Stema dedicated winch software enabling fully automated measurement cycles, which can be displayed on the interface screen on deck. Among the parameters that can be set are: the maximum speed over ground (SOG), speed to lower the sensor, measurement speed. The lowering of the probe can be stopped automatically using various stopping criteria set in the winch software or by manual operation. The latter is enabled by a handheld near the winch and a additional handheld located on the bridge of the ship.
